Jeans and Jackets

A little more packing done today.  Jeans and jackets and even a sweatshirt for that cool evening on the patio.  Wow, a cool thought.  Mostly, though, today was spent in the inferno getting things prepared for other people to take care of.... pets and plants.   Much of the yard will need to live on the water we are giving it before we leave.  A nice slow rain while we're away would be most appreciated.  We may enjoy rain away from home, since the area receives monsoons this time of year.  It would be so sweet to smell rain again.  Not the dust of the dried farm fields around us.

Have you seen an upside-down rainbow before ?   This picture was taken from the bell tower of LaFonda in Santa Fe two years ago.    I have since learned that these are produced when sunlight shines through millions of tiny ice crystals in the clouds.  That's the abbreviated version of a longer explanation which includes words like "circumzenithal arc."

We will stay at a place called Santa Fe Skies.   It's just south of town and away from the lights, on a slight hill where you can see everything around you.  The sunsets are this gorgeous.   It looked as if the mountains were on fire.  The most amazing sunset I have ever seen.  I hope to see more this time and will share pictures here if you care to travel with us.

We will return to the Santa Fe Railyards where they have the most wonderful farmer's market I've ever been to.  Not so long ago the vendors sold their wares in a gravel parking lot next to the rails.  Didn't really look like much.   But they have since built a wonderful area for the local farmers and merchants to share their bounty.  Last time we were there we sampled goat's milk and fresh-from-the-orchard cherries.  If I lived there I'd be eating so much fresh food I'd be a health nut.  The photo below was taken the last time we were there. Looking forward to sampling much more on this trip !

  1. The rainbow picture is beautiful! All your photos are wonderful and I'm looking forward to the pictures from this trip. I've never seen an upside down rainbow before, but I have seen a circular rainbow from the window of an airplane. It was two weeks after 911 when a friend and I were flying to Dallas just as the sun rose. We looked out the window and saw the shadow of our plane on a cloud bank with a perfect rainbow around it. Because of the optics that that give rise to a rainbow it followed along with us until we were past the cloud bank. We were awestruck and the message was not lost on us! But we didn't have a camera.
